Accurate level data for stormwater, flood and surface water sites.
The LS1-R is HiLo’s standard monitor for stormwater and surface water, and the instrument behind most of HiLo’s flood and environmental deployments. It pairs 60 GHz pulsed radar and onboard detection algorithms with cellular telemetry and a replaceable battery rated for up to ten years. A single unit can be bracket-mounted, commissioned from a phone and left to report for years.

Field staff activate the monitor’s Bluetooth with a magnet, configure it in the HiLo app for iOS and Android, and confirm readings before they leave site.
Levels, devices and alarms for the whole network in one place. Low level, high level and rapid change alarms are escalated outside the reporting schedule and sent by SMS and email.
The HiLo API passes data to other platforms, and data can be exported from the cloud. Self-hosted SCADA integration over MQTT is available for private networks.
The LS1-R is used by councils, infrastructure operators and maintenance contractors across New Zealand and Australia.
Councils deploy LS1-R monitors across their hydrological networks, both as primary instruments and for redundancy alongside existing gauges.
Early warning of rising water gives road and emergency management teams the information they need to decide when to close a crossing.
Continuous data shows how the network actually performs under rainfall, so a blocked or underperforming asset is visible during a small event rather than discovered in a large one.
Operators monitor dam approaches, tailrace channels and the access roads their sites depend on.
Operators monitor haul roads, pits and flood-prone rail crossings, where a closure carries a direct commercial cost.

Turbulent flow, condensation on the sensor and nearby structures can all return reflections that a simpler sensor may mistake for the water surface.
The LS1-R’s onboard algorithms interpret the radar signal and hold the reading on the true water surface where the signal is ambiguous, giving operations teams fewer false alarms and fewer wasted callouts. A narrow 8° beam keeps the measurement on the water, and the Teflon dome maintains performance under condensation.
The LS1-R is rated IP68 for immersion at four metres for four days and operates from −20°C to +55°C. It mounts on a standard 2" BSP thread and lifts off by hand for servicing, and the battery can be replaced in the field with a screwdriver.

The LS1-R measures every five minutes, synchronised across the fleet, and reports to HiLo Live on a schedule configurable from one to 24 hours. Alarms are sent outside that schedule, so an alert does not wait for the next routine report.
If communications drop, the monitor holds its readings and sends them once the connection returns, so the record stays complete through an outage.
HiLo flood monitoring equipment is deployed across thousands of sites with councils and infrastructure operators throughout New Zealand and Australia. Customers include Sunshine Coast Council, Gold Coast City Council, Brisbane Airport and AGL Energy. At AGL Energy alone, HiLo monitors are deployed across approximately 300 sites. HiLo is NZ owned, designed and engineered.

Automation Group is HiLo’s exclusive distributor for the Scientific range in Australia. Australian customers deal with a local team that has long experience supplying water utilities, councils and infrastructure operators. That team is backed by stock held in Australia and a record of delivering large tenders.

In New Zealand, HiLo supplies the LS1-R directly and through a number of trusted resellers, with engineering and customer support based in Dunedin. Get in touch to learn more.
The LS1-R suits most stormwater and surface water sites. Choose the LS1-R Plus for hazardous or sewer environments.
Setup guides, commissioning instructions and troubleshooting information for the LS1-R are available in HiLo’s support centre, along with guidance for the HiLo app and HiLo Live. Australian customers can also contact Automation Group for local support.
HiLo’s engineers can help you choose sites, select the right mounting and set reporting to suit your network. Many programmes start with a small trial before expanding.
